Here are some top German magazines that German speakers have enjoyed reading in Germany, Austria, Switzerland.

News & General

  • Der Spiegel, 675,000 copies sold weekly. Germany’s top news magazine. Focused on politics, business and the environment. The English version of the magazine is also online.
  • Stern, a weekly newsmagazine, 360,000 copies. It was established in 1948. Journalists value its photography focus and more in-depth reporting. This is a direct competitor to Der Spiegel or Focus.
  • Focus, 250,000 books, was founded in 1993 by Der Spiegel as a competitor. We place less emphasis on politics and economy and focus more on everyday themes such as family, health, finances, careers and so on.
  • Profil, which is approximately 90,000, is the Austrian edition German magazine Der Spiegel.


  • Capital, motto “Wirtschaft ist Gesellschaft”, a monthly finance and business magazine selling around 120,000 copies.
  • WirtschaftsWoche (WIWO), a weekly business magazine, selling around 100,000 copies. WiWoGreen is a portal dedicated to green topics. 

Computers & IT

  • Magazin fur Computer Technik (c’t) is Germany’s leading computer magazine. It was launched in 1993. It is aimed at specialists.
  • Computer Bild, a popular German-language computer magazine that appears twice a month, is Computer Bild.
  • PC-Welt (“PC World”) Monthly, one Germany’s oldest computer magazines. It is for advanced and professional users.
  • Automotive
  • Auto Bild was a top weekly automotive magazine. It sold over 250,000 copies. The brand has now created a range of related magazines on digital platforms.
  • Auto, Motor und Sport, appear fortnightly, and a primary focus is on test reports. An estimated circulation of 330,000
  • Celebs & Gossip
  • Commonly referred to as “Tratsch & Klatsch”
  • BUNTE Germany’s leading gossip weekly. Covering stars, royaltys, entertainment, etc. with a circulation of approximately 340,000. It’s often involved in court cases involving celebrities.


Bravo, the biggest teen magazine, has grown to be a global brand with several spinoff magazines (e.g. Bravo TV – a youth TV magazine. Bravo sport & Bravo Hits (music). www.bravo.de – the online portal.

  • Gewinn, “Das Wirtschaftsmagazin Fur Ihren Personlichen Vorteil”, an Austrian personal finance magazine, selling around 50,000 copies monthly.
  • Handelszeitung is Switzerland’s largest weekly business magazine. They focus on economics, investments, and lifestyle.
