Per the Reserve Bank of India guidelines, you need to complete KYC formalities to avail of banking facilities. This is to ensure record maintenance of all the account holders. Hence, all banks ask for standard information like your full name, address, identity proof, etc. An additional requirement is your contact number.
Your phone number gets termed as your registered mobile number. Banks use this to give you access to your online Bank Account. They also use it to send you alerts on transactions and other important updates. Even if you have a Bank Account with the same bank for years, they insist on linking the number.
Hence, linking your mobile number is integral to the account opening process. Fortunately, this process does not require you to visit the physical branch. You can do it online through a few easy steps. Here is how to link phone number with your Bank Account online:
Steps involved
The easiest way to execute the linking process is through Digital Banking. It lets you conveniently fulfil the requirements. Your bank activates your Net Banking Account right after the account opening.
You can register on their official website or app if you do not have access to this facility. Once done, follow these steps to know how to link phone number with Bank Account:
Step 1: Log in to your Net Banking Account with your username and password.
Step 2: Go to the ‘My Profile’ section. You should find a ‘contact number’ tab after opening it. If you have multiple accounts, select the one that requires linking.
Step 3: Once selected, you will be prompted to complete an additional authentication measure. You simply enter a password or PIN to link mobile number to Bank Account. Note that the authentication process may differ based on your banking partner.
Step 4: Upon proving the PIN, you get redirected to a new tab. Here, you must enter the mobile number you wish to link. If you have no linked number, it will be assigned to your Bank Account. In case of a changed number, the bank will update it.
Step 5: To avoid incorrect information, you may have to reconfirm the mobile number. Do the needful and confirm the entered data while using the Banking app.
Step 6: Click on the submit button. The bank will then send a one-time password to confirm the registered number. After entering the same, you successfully link your phone number to your Bank Account.
These steps are simple in the presence of a reliable banking partner. This is because they usually use an interactive dashboard to guide you through the process. Besides, you also get customer assistance if you get stuck. Hence, you should open an account with a reputable bank to perform such tasks efficiently.
