What is Cancer?

Cancer is a disease where cells grow out of control causing tumors to develop. Tumors can affect any organ or area of the body. There are many different types of cancer, including skin cancer, breast cancer, prostate cancer, colon cancer, lung cancer, brain cancer, leukemia, and lymphoma.

The causes of cancer vary depending on the type of cancer. Most cancers are caused by environmental factors, lifestyle choices, and genetics. Environmental factors include smoking, drinking alcohol, radiation exposure, pollution, certain foods, obesity, and lack of exercise. Lifestyle choices include not eating enough fruits and vegetables, consuming processed food, not exercising regularly, and using tobacco products. Genetics can lead to genetic mutations that cause cancer. These mutations may occur naturally over time, or they may be caused by external agents (such as radiation).
